Polo 2012 Olympics controversy

Another controversy that took place on Tuesday, 31.07.2012, at the London 2012 Olympics regards the polo match between Croatia and Spain. Croatia won with 8 points after Spain managed to tied the score just when the horn rang. The line judge called it a goal, but match referee Boris Margeta of Slovenia overruled him, declaring  the 8-7 victory in favor of Croatia.

The Spain team appealed the decision to the FINA technical committee.

“I was close by and I saw that it was a goal. I even celebrated it, and I could see on the TV that it was a goal,”said Spanish player Perez Vargas . “I feel frustrated because it’s a decision that is a big prejudice against us, and it’s not fair. It’s really sad to know that in the 21st century they’re not using the technology to check this.”

This was not the first injustice that took place at the London 2012 Olympics. Shin A Lam was declared defeated on Monday, 30.07.12, at fencing semifinals after Britta Heidemann managed to attack her 4 times in just 1 second. This was not a Matrix scene but rather a human error in keeping the game's time.

Ye Shiwen controversy at 2012 London Olympics

london2012.com
The 16-year-old gold medallist swimmer Ye Shiwen of China was suspected of being doped after winning the women’s 400m individual medley final al London Olympics. Ye managed to break the world record swimming the final 50 meters of the freestyle faster than the American champion Ryan Lochte.

According to the International Olympic Committee the proclaimed golden medalist winner was "clean" for all drugs. “She’s been through Wada’s programme and she’s clean. That’s the end of the story. Ye Shiwen deserves recognition for her talent,” said Lord Colin Moynihan, who is the British Olympic Association’s chairman.

After this incident I can only say that just because someone is better doesn't automatically mean that that person had done something to cheat the system. People are not only judgmental but are also very envious.

Congrats Ye!

What happened to Shin A Lam at fencing

Photo: GETTY IMAGES
I am watching with interest the London 2012 Olympics .

Today  a peculiar and controversy thing happened during the Women's fencing individual epee semi-finals. South Korea's A Lam Shin faced Britta Heidemann from Germany. The game was OK until it went to overtime during which Shin A Lam was attacked four times in just 1 second until she lost the final touch. How could such a thing happen? Well the countdown was stopped at 0:01 and the referee continued to call the contestants until  Heidemann scoured a touch on Shin.

The Korean coach noticed the judges about the timeline.

After 30 minutes of discussions and debates the judges decided in favor of the German competitor leaving Shin A Lam dumbfounded in the arena. Her coach appealed the decision but the judges maintained their initial collusion.

Was the judges decision fair? How can a referee take away years of hard work by "forgetting" to start the clock in a competition which is supposed to be at the highest level?
Why haven't they decided to replay that second?

Currently Shin A Lam is fighting for the bronze medal. Go go go!!!

How to remove a tick

Source: CDC
On 08.07.2012 I got bitten by a tick. I have identified the tick as being an Ixodos ricinus nymph female. Due to the fact that the tick had not been attached to my body more than 24 hours the doctor decided to keep me under observation without prescribing me any antibiotics.

Ticks are the leading carriers of diseases to humans in the United States and more recently in Europe. The most common disease ticks are responsible for spreading is Lyme disease (borreliosis) aka the disease with 100 faces  (due to how differently the disease affects each person).

Now if  you identified a tick attached to your body here is what you should do:

1. Stay calm .
Stressing about it won't help you remove it. Not all ticks bear diseases. Maybe you ended up being bitten my a healthy one . At this stage it's important not to panic and think positive.

2. Remove the tick .
The center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the following:
  • Use fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick as close to the skin's surface as possible.
  • Pull upward with steady, even pressure. Don't twist or jerk the tick; this can cause the mouth-parts to break off and remain in the skin. If this happens, remove the mouth-parts with tweezers. If you are unable to remove the mouth easily with clean tweezers, leave it alone and let the skin heal.
  • After removing the tick, thoroughly clean the bite area and your hands with rubbing alcohol, an iodine scrub, or soap and water.
3. See a doctor.
Just to be sure you are OK after you have removed the tick  see a doctor and follow his/her advice. I would place seeing a doctor as the second stage but going to the ER unit and waiting in line would only increase the chances of infection (the longer the tick stays attached to your body the more the risk of being infested)

4. Write down the date you have been bitten.
In 80% of the cases if the tick bears the Lyme disease and you don't get any symptoms (commonly  a circular, outwardly expanding rash called erythema chronicum migrans) in 3 to 30 days after you have been bitten then you are off the hook, for now.

I wish you a tick free day!!!

CIA Reveals the Truth About the Roswell Crash

Roswell Daily Record, July 8, 1947

“It was not a weather balloon […] It was what people reported … a ship from another planet. These are the words of Chase Brandon, former CIA agent who witnessed firsthand the Roswell crash in 1947.

65 years ago, the Roswell Daily Record released a shocking news: some local military officials captured a flying saucer on a farmland near Roswell city. 24 hours later, the military authorities gave the press an official statement stating that "flying disc" observed by the witnesses was actually a weather balloon. Strangely, the press and public have accepted this option not without raising any questions. Now, Chase Brandon in an interview given to Daily Mail explains what really happened. He says that the evidence regarding the Roswell case is carefully kept in a box located at CIA headquarters. "It was an object that clearly did not come from this planet. It hit the ground and I do not doubt for even a second that the debris and bodies reported by witnesses were alien," said former member CIA. He does not say exactly what the box contains, but notes that there were pictures and "written material", which convinced him that the Roswell crash was indeed an alien crash.

Brandon Chase's hypothesis seems to be supported by documents recently published online by the FBI, on the Vault website. In these documents, an FBI agent talked about "three so-called flying saucers discovered in New Mexico". They had circular shapes and a diameter of 15 meters. Each ship contained three bodies of 90 cm in height. The bodies were dressed in metallic clothes which had a very fine texture similar to costumes that nowadays pilots use when flying at high speeds," said FBI agent Guy Hottel.
