Rare 300 year-old pocket watch to be sold on 21 February

A 300-year-old pocket watch will be auctioned in Essex, according to BBC News. The Bushman pocket watch is sold by a private collector in Wales.

Organizers expect to sell the rare timepiece for an amount close to 7,000 euros. The bid will take place at Sworders Fine Act Auctioneers in Stansted Mountfitchet on 21 February.

The watch, believed to have been made ​​in 1710, has a "sibling" exhibited in Victoria & Albert Museum.

Freelance writing is not volunteer writing

Have you ever been asked for an original article on a given topic prior being hired? As a freelance I have been but into such a situation more than once. Employers call it sample original article. It's a way of checking your writing skills on a given topic before inviting you to join their team. Well most of the time this is just a scheme to collect free content.

If you are sick of working for free and letting others take advantage of your work, here are three things you should consider before sending an original article away:

1. Always and I mean always publish your work before sending something as sample work. Nowadays on the internet there are a lot of opportunistic employers. I am not saying that all those placing writing job posts are trying to deceive us. But most of them seek to do so. Picture this situation which unfortunately is real in 5 out of 10 cases. Someone asks you to send him/her a sample article on a give topic. You think that person will evaluate your work and if he/she doesn't like it will immediately delete it. You couldn't be more wrong! There are people out there posting on their sites content written by you and me and more important for them written for free.

2. If they keep asking you for original content don't give them the entire article. Let them see just one or two paragraphs of your work. If they want to see the rest they should pay you. Demand this and thus check whether they take your work seriously or not.

3.  Verify your employer's credentials. If you can't find this information online ask him directly. If he/she is serious about hiring you then they will have nothing against sending you a few details regarding their current and previous activity.

Litter box syndrome

Cats can be considered the VIPs among domestic animals. Versatile and extremely intelligent they are very cautions when it comes to their personal hygiene. For them the litter box is the human’s equivalent for toilette. Therefore it comes as no surprise that this private space must suit their every need. In one out of ten cases a cat will avoid the litter box. This erratic behavior hides some of the cat’s most pressing problems. These issues can be related to either a medical aliment, sanitation or location problem with the sandbox or even emotional stress. If not dealt with in time the feline will most likely develop a litter box syndrome: he or she will become scared of using their own toilette.

Do not punish you cat or forcefully place him/her in the litter box if he/she refuses to use it. Instead try these tips:

1. Follow your cat and see where in the house he/she feels most comfortable. That is the best location where you should place the litter box
2. Make sure the litter box is unscented and uncovered. Also, scoop the sand at least once a day.
3. Have you cat checked out by a veterinarian. Cats can develop FUS (Feline Uremic Syndrome), a group of urinary tract related symptoms which in the end can lead to the cat’s loss of the sandbox habit.

Qatar on the world art’s map

Paul Cézanne's painting The Card Players, has become the most valuable piece of art in the world. According to Russia Today, the Qatar royal family purchased it last week for the staggering sum of $250 million. The reason behind this investment is the royal’s family wish to turn Qatar into an intellectual center in the forthcoming years.

Edward Dolman, former chairmen at Christie’s and actual adviser to Qatar's museum authority declared in 2011 that “Qatar is looking to deliver a series of exciting cultural projects in time for the World Cup in 2022”.

In 2014 the Qatar National Museum will open its gates exhibiting a completely new look thanks to Jean Nouvel’s smart architecture. There is now doubt that the newly purchased Cézanne piece will turn the Qatar National Museum into the primal point of attraction for cultural tourists.

Over the last few years the Qataris have been associated with some very expensive purchases in the modern and contemporary artwork. In 2009 they bought 11 Rothko paintings from the J. Ezra Merkin collection for $310 million, followed one year later by the picked up of Andy Warhol's "The Men in Her Life".

Rare 19 century book sold for 7,9 million dollars at an auction

A rare books dating from the nineteenth century, was sold at auction for 7.9 million dollars, according to Reuters. The book sold is a copy in four volumes of the first edition of "Birds of America", a paper signed by Franco-American birdwatcher John James Audubon.

The volume includes drawings colored handmade and has a length of about one meter. Thus, the book entered the top three most expensive printed books in the world, according to a representative of Christie's Auction House.

The book was bought by the fourth Duke of Portland, William Henry Cavendish-Scott-Bentinck. Another volume of the same edition was sold in late 2010 for $ 10 million dollars.
